The democratic party has been rather spineless in their tackling lgbt issues; however, that is hardly comparable to the blatant bigotry and discrimination in the social conservative camp (which is largely republican). I’m not enamored with either party as a whole and I recognize that their are good and bad politicians in either, but on the issue of lgbt rights and equality the two parties differ greatly.

Well, as a blanket statement, you can say that reports about any election can be considered as political news. Considering that the President is the most powerful office-bearer in Pakistan, it is more justified. However considering the way democracy works (rather does not work!), and the way a military general has held the democracy hostage for many years this particular case is more of a joke! (that is sarcastically speaking)
