Art & Politics – Four Aspects
Category: What is Politic | Oct 16, 2009 |

From skillful caricaturists to passionate crusaders for political causes, Israeli artists have throughout history in one form or another created a political work of art. Whether biblical stories of Jewish bravery and martyrdom, the birth of Zionism or more modern examples of courage, political art has always played a part in the soul of Israeli creations of art. At the same time, even in modern times of today artists are often scared to link their creations to history and politics.
In the following, this article examines four aspects analyzing the issue of art & politics.
Artists & Politics
The first aspect addressing the subject of artists and politics examines the extent of public involvement by Israeli artists in taking a political standpoint expressed through their art paintings.
From a democratic point of view which seeks to protect freedom of expression, it is important that art work tackle political issues and influence public debate
However, the problem in Israel for artists who want to express an anti-establishment view is the concern over the fact that the establishment represents their main source of support and financing. While those who want to back up the establishment are not doing so out of fear of being accused by their artist friends that their creative work is influenced by economic reasons. As such it can be concluded that in our time the majority of Israeli artists are “fearful” when it comes to touching upon political issues.
Politicians & Art
In the second aspect addressing politicians and art, I examine the involvement and understanding of political leaders in the creations of art. There is no doubt, that an artistic point of perspective opens horizons contributing to the development of a more open-minded way of thinking.
For this reason, Israeli leaders – whose personalities are often channeled through the security and/or party platform – should show interest in the arts as a tool for personal development which can widen their world view.
From a public point of view, a politician, who has knowledge and proven interest in cultural issues, will be considered as having preferable characteristics of experience and knowledge.
Politics in Art
Addressing the third aspect of politics in art, the following questions I believe are at the heart of the issue: To what extent does the political and public activity of the artist influence the artistic evaluation of his creations in the present and the future? If the official establishment wants the prestige of a particular artist can it increase or decrease the value of his art?
Art in Politics
In the fourth aspect of art in politics I raise the question if to a certain extent there is an artist at work in the political making? Can we make the assertion that certain people have a political-artistic talent which makes it easier for them to succeed in the political arena?
In this context, I very much believe, that in order to be a player in the political arena winning public opinion, a leader needs to be creative and have strong interpersonal skills combining artistic elements.

Gerald celente is called upon by many in the media because of his uncanny accuracy predicting trends economically, politically and socially. This is the most important message for our time! You and your family need to understand what he is saying here!
Help answer the question about what is politic
What do you think about politic in France, and especially about Sarkozy and Segolene Royal?Nicolas Sarkozy and Segolene Royal are the ones who wants to be president in France in 2007.
King: you could not have made a better comment! I have always considered myself a Republican leaner, but as of late, I am seeing politics in a whole new light. Libertarians are more and more appealing to me everyday and if ever there was a time for a 3rd party to finally rise and take office-this is the moment!
you look very confident about your art skill. Can you grasp this http://culturexy.blogspot.com/2008/03/drawing-facing-reversal-of-values.html ?
tin: I guess you made this comment BEFORE ABC canned Stossel. I knew when he took on the NEA 2 years ago that his days at ABC were coming to an end. I am surprised he lasted this long. I love him!
good art is art that during the Renaissance time artists painted! Michelangelo, Da Vinci as well as Raphael as excellent examples of good art! they are the kind of art that people want to see, apppreciate, where time was put into it, where there is always a theme, where the colors and techniques start to vary with the change of time and where one actually look at a painting and interpret what he or she sees because it looks so realistic and human like! the good art has high expectations and none the less, and take Michelangeo and the Sistine Ceilin and compare that to Picasso-not that i have something against him! Michelangelo shows expressions, emotion, light, darkness, did a fresco on the cupola of a chapel as well as had a theme for it and nailed it! everything when you look at it seems in its place, as though realistic, the colors vibrant yet pastel, the themes changing and the mystery is still there. Picasso on the other hand as well as other modern artists consider art taking some paint and throwing it on the canvas or making copies of the mona lisa face multiple times in color! i call that a kid's work because i can give my brother and his friends some paint and canvas and they could come up with the same stuff the so called "artists" come up with the same things or even better! art in todays society especially good art is what Europeans have in their museums such as the Louvre and D'Orsay and at Versailles too! that is art, good art to be more specific since it is not something done in a hurrty but rather with sophistication and with class! that is what sets the two arts apart: good art has more class to it while the modern art does not and yes art art defined by the society and their standards as always!
there is such a thing as bad and good art forms. today, many people think of art as being very open ended as if everying is good and it is only up to the persons taste. it is rather subjective, but good art is the product of an artist being aware of the marks, sounds, movements, ect. also, a TRUE artist (not just a craftman) has developed a sense of self-awareness compared to his/her environment. these artists do the best they can for the sake of the work. when some one pairs great technical skill with idiosyncracy, they have made a good piece of art.
look up Henry Williams for music and jacob collins for visual art.
Your opinion isn't worth less than theirs, however they are looking at art in a more complete mold (sometimes). They have been educated to see art as an entire lump and then to see the different periods that art went through.
That being said I agree with your easements of those artists. Sometimes people get caught up in trendy!
Fine art classes and a lot of drawing helps
Where I get tattooed the owner gets kids coming in all the time asking to apprentice for him, he often gives them a couple of basic sketches to draw out and 99% of them never come back!
draw, draw and draw some more!
Hello! I'm a student at AAU and here's about as much as I know:
New Media is part of the Computer Arts school, so you're going to learn more about web design and web graphics. You'll probably learn programs like Photoshop, Flash, After Effects Fireworks, Dreamweaver, etc. and probably some basic HTML, CSS, etc.
Graphic Design is more traditional arts based, where you'll learn the principals of design and stuff like typology, calligraphy, print and package design.
You can always change your major if you end up liking one more than the other. You can probably even float between the two and still be a graphic designer, but learn the tools of the new media trade.
congressman Cummings comments speak volumes about the toxic mindset of most Washington Politicians: “Its my duty to get goodies for my constituents”. No its your duty to uphold the Constitution not to continually seek free handouts for your community at the expense of the taxpayer. Such thinking undermines our economy, and in turn, our freedom. We are now heavy in debt to China and other nations … and they thus, they have a say in our affairs. We have lost our national sovereignty.
Yay John Stossel. Outstanding work again. Amazed ABC hasn’t freaked out and canned your ass for telling the truth on MSM.
BADASS!

Art created for a dictator has only one purpose: it is to present the dictator's policies in such a way as to impress or seduce the viewer into accepting them. In a free society, art has many "purposes" (or no purpose at all), self-expression being one of the main ones. Propaganda art is often inferior in artistic values and creativity–look at some of the crap that was produced in Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia. This is not always the case, as you would see in the revolutionary and Napoleonic paintings of David. But the artistry in these cases is always secondary to the propaganda. Also, you almost never get anything daring and new in propaganda art.
The one martial art that works the best for me is Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. I also love Judo. I've trained in Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan, BJJ with the police dept., and short periods of time in various other martial arts.
As any good martial artist knows, there is no best martial art. It all depends on the individual.
